Volcanic Aerosols
Lava, ash, and hot gases from erupting volcanoes can make a wide area uninhabitable for many years. Sometimes, as happened in 1883 with Krakatau in Indonesia, the entire side of a mountain can blow up!

You're probably familiar with these obvious effects of volcano eruptions, but did you know that they also affect Earth's temperature?

Did you know that volcanic eruptions create aerosols that can affect global climate? NASA has studied eruptions and aerosols in the past, with earth observing satellites. It continues to study them, now especially with Terra.
